OUR CAMPAIGNS
GFA Campaigns involve lobbying government, collecting petitions via wholefood shops, distributing news, getting members to write letters and organising product and company boycotts.
As part of our overall aim of obtaining a total ban on the import, production and sale of GM food and crops we are currently campaigning for:
  • GM labelling of food and feed
  • A GM-free wholefood trade...
  • A ban on GM in animal feed
  • Keeping UK honey GM-free
  • Government support of organic farming

HOW YOU CAN CAMPAIGN AGAINST GM FOOD
Our government is ignoring massive public protest about GM foods and crops but we can win this battle through the use of market forces. If we all refuse to buy GM foods, refuse to buy anything from businesses that sell GM foods and refuse to invest in agricultural biotechnology businesses then the GM industry will collapse despite all efforts of the government to save it. Here are some things you can do:

  • Collect petitions for us to send to businesses and politicians
  • Your bank - the highstreet banks still invest in the biotech industry, you may prefer to move your money to an ethical bank that avoids such investments such as the Coop or Triodos
  • Boycott manufacturers who use or support GM and write to tell them why (possibilities include Mars (who own organic brand Seeds of Change), Novartis (own Gerber and Libby's).
  • If you are a retailer choose a wholesaler who is a member of GFA or meets its standards, tell other wholesalers why you prefer not to buy from them.
  • Lobby your Local Authority to adopt an anti-GM resolution. Talk to your local councillor - many local councils have already signed up to the Five Year Freeze and have banned GM Food from their facilities!
  • If you work for a local authority ask if they have invested your pension scheme in biotech companies.
  • Supermarkets: Avoid supermarkets that still sell GM foods and instead use wholefood shops that are members of GFA or have a policy of avoiding all GM foods. If you still use a supermarket and they refuse to label GM derivatives (eg Safeway, Lidl) ask customer services to check all your shopping. Support the campaigns linked to in our Links page.
  • If you wish to do more you can contact GEN, Genetix Snowball, Corporate Watch or your local Earth First! group.

  • Primal Seedssuggest the following possibilities for action on their website:
Crop Squatting and Guerilla Gardening. A list of small and farm scale GM testsites in UK, including farm addresses is available on the Primal Seeds site or on Corporate Watch's  GM-Info site. This is updated regularly from official sources and activist reports. Please consider writing the farmers themselves a letter to explain your opposition to GM.

    See our Links page too.
